Somali Fried Dough Quraa/Quraac

This is a very nice sweet bread/fried dough. It is served a lot during Ramadan. It is easy and yummy!


Cook Time: 10 minutes plus 45 minutes to rise


Makes about 23-25 balls


2 Cups
of All Purpose Flour


3/4 Cup
of Warm Milk


1 1/2 Teaspoons
of Yeast


1 Tablespoon
of Sugar


1/2 Teaspoon
of Salt


1 Cup
of Water


1 Cup
of Sugar


Oil for frying


Add flour, milk, yeast, 1 teaspoon of sugar and salt to a bowl and mix until a dough is formed


Cover with a warm towel and let rise 30-45 minutes


While dough is rising, boil the water and 1 cup of sugar for 5 minutes stirring frequently.


Set aside.


Once dough has set for 30-45 minutes, roll into small balls


Fry in hot oil until golden brown


Drain on a towel


Let them soak in the sugar/water mixture for 2-3 minutes


Serve.

    i have questin what size of cup do you use and its ok if i use plain or self risen flour coz im tryin some of ur recipes and i use those flour and the result is kind messy so plz. this looks delicious im gonna try soon of iftar insha allah thanks alot

  3. Alaykum Asalaamu,

    I use a one cup measuring cup. This recipe takes 2 cups. You can use a coffee/tea mug, that usually equals about 1 cup.

    The flours are basically the same, just the self rising flour has baking powder already mixed in it.

    Is your dough too sticky? If it is, you can try adding the liquids (water, milk, etc) slowly and mixing it in to see if the dough becomes firm.

    its me again i just wanna thank you for the repalay. Today i made the dough and its workes i used the plain flour and its came out nice and dilicious and made a bit flat not the balls and its looks bit nices and my kids loved them thankx
