Somali Spaghetti (Baasto)
There are many different recipes for Somali spaghetti. This is one of the quickest and simplest ways to make it.
Cook time approximately 20-30 minutes
Serves about 2...or 1 very hungry person
1/2 Pound of Pasta
1/4 Cup of Suqaar (beef cubes)
1/4 of a small Onion - finely chopped
1 Chicken Cube
1 Tomato - cubed
1 clove of Garlic - smashed
1 tablespoon of Cilantro - smashed
2 tablespoons of Tomato Sauce
salt to taste
oil for frying the onions
Boil pasta until tender, drain and rinse with cold water. Boil meat until cooked and tender, about 15 minutes. Drain the water off the meat and add a few spoons of oil and the onion. Cook on medium high (7 on the stove) until the onion is soft.
Add the Chicken cube and dissolve. Add the tomato and stir. Cook until the tomato dissolves and reduces to a liquid.
Add the smashed garlic and cilantro -stir. Add salt to taste and the tomato sauce. Stir everything well then add the cooked pasta. Stir to the pasta is mixed well. Turn off heat and serve.
